He migrated to Lagos from Enugu in 2002 for National Youth Service and then opted to work at a commercial bank as an initial means of supporting himself and his musical dreams.

After a brief stint with HipHop music group Da Thorobreds (which also had the likes of Illbliss, Elajoe and B Elect), Obiwon made his solo debut in 2006 with the album Overture, resigning from the bank job shortly afterwards.
